A Eurotram light rail vehicle at Homme de Fer station on Line A of the Strasbourg tramway in France, operated by Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois (CTS). The 100% low-floor Eurotram was built by ABB between 1994 and 2004.

Ray Berger

October’s entertainment will be a slide presentation of public transportation in France by Ray Berger, second vice president of the national ERA.
Electric railroading has improved significantly in France over the last 50 years. Ray’s slideshow will point where specific improvements can be seen, such as how the three French trolley networks of the late 1960s blossomed into 21 light rail networks in 2011. Ray will also look at the three French narrow gauge railroads, including those in Corsica, and also some rail operations in western Switzerland centering around Lake Geneva.
Those attending this informative meeting will quickly understand how positive political decisions in France resulted in improved local and long-distance transportation. The wonderful results now enjoyed by the French people might even encourage some members to advocate political decisions that would give similar improvements here in the U.S.
